Brazil: Why You Should Visit

Its biodiversity and incredible nature make Brazil one of the world’s most beautiful countries.

If you visit Brazil, you will see amazing sunrises and sunsets, an enormous array of water plays, and infinite secluded places to visit. So, if you are tired of the old world and want to see nature at its best and meet friendly, joyful people, there is no better time than now to visit Brazil!

Brazil is where the sun appears never to go away, and there are beaches and rivers everywhere. Therefore, Brazil is the perfect place to relax without thinking of work, goals, or life endurances.

In many areas of Brazil, you feel like time has no meaning, and you can do nothing and wait for the sunrise or sunset. And it’s one of the few places you can feel lazy without guilt.

As stated in other posts, Brazil is good any time of the year, but if you are undecided about when to visit Brazil, try Brazil during the US summer, which will be the wintertime in Brazil. So, choosing Brazil as your summer vacation destination can be a clever idea since the winter in the Northeast of Brazil feels like US summer, anyway.

And If you want my opinion about the best time to visit Brazil, please check my post.

Brazil is a country of many contradictions. While the average Brazilian can barely get by due to unfair, unbalanced, and systemic economic discrepancies, there is an affluent and thriving Brazilian society. So, don’t feel surprised to find exuberant hotels, fancy restaurants, and incredible live cities.

You can visit Brazil because of its nature, white-sand beaches, vibrant cities, or because we have some of the friendliest people on Earth. It’s your call, but here is a summary of the main reasons I believe you should visit Brazil:

Visit Brazil Because You Can Experience Nature At Its Best

Brazil is more than its famous Amazon rainforest. Brazil is a hidden gem full of nature, fabulous villas, and many places with calm, clear water. The Brazilian landscape is best described here on the National Geographic website:

“The Brazilian landscape is very varied. It is most well-known for its dense forests, including the Amazon, the world’s largest jungle in the north. But there are also dry grasslands (called pampas), rugged hills, pine forests, sprawling wetlands, immense plateaus, and a long coastal plain.”

(National Geographic)

People go to Brazil for several reasons; however, if you love the outdoors, I can’t imagine a better place to visit than Brazil. Outdoor enthusiasts will find much to do in this beautiful, green country, including practicing many sports, like swimming, surfing, fishing, scuba diving, and more.

Visit Brazil Because Of Its Beautiful Coast, The Atlantic Ocean, and The Lively Villages

The grandiosity of the Atlantic Ocean makes the coast of Brazil unbelievably pleasant for swimming and many other types of water activities. Brazil has plenty of picture-perfect beaches and superb coastal views!

For instance, the northeast of Brazil has many places away from the crowds, and you will be delighted to find many quiet locations for those interested in seeing more than just another hyped tourist location.

Finding a beach with calm, warm water in front of you is common in Brazil. You will also find out that in Brazil, the sunrise is early and the sunset earlier than in the US, which makes Brazilians very tempted to get up early to go for a walk on the beach or stay on the beach until sunset.

Here is a just a small list of top places to visit in Brazil where you can enjoy Brazil at its best:

  1. Salvador, Bahia: The historic, vibrant, and unique city of Salvador will delight you. Salvador is a beautiful place to start your journey if you have never been to Brazil. From Salvador, you can easily reach most of the other sites I mentioned below.
  2. Praia do Forte: Located in the state of Bahia. Praia do Forte is a small village with many vibes, street music, and warm ocean water. It’s also one of the few places in Brazil where you can visit the famous Tamar Project (Projeto Tamar), which aims to protect endangered sea turtles. If you are traveling with children, they will be fascinated with turtles of all sizes, fish, sharks, rays, and other animals.
  3. Porto de Galinhas: Located in the state of Pernambuco.  The natural pools in Porto de Galinhas have a unique feel. The ride on the local rafts and the abundance of fish around you as you swim is an incredible experience!
  4. Morro de São Paulo: Morro de São Paulo is located 60 km south of Salvador, Bahia.  Morro, as we call it, is one of the highlights of the south of Bahia. No cars are allowed in Morro de Sao Paulo, which provides a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere away from the hustle and bustle of the metropolis.
  5. Fernando de Noronha Islands: Take a plane and experience the unique Fernando de Noronha Archipelago. Once there, try scuba diving. Just don’t be surprised if you see many types of fish around you!

These are just highlights of the top places to visit in Brazil. The list is enormous, and there is much to enjoy within each location.

Visit Brazil Because Of The Parties: From Carnaval, Saint John’s Day to New Year Celebration and More

If you haven’t heard that Brazilians like to party, it’s because you have never met a Brazilian! However, our main events are:

Carnaval: It’s almost impossible to think of Brazil without Carnaval. The Brazilian Carnaval is the most famous and glorious party in Brazil. Although supposedly just a few days (3 days), Brazilians commemorate Carnaval for many days. Nevertheless, say it’s the only party we think about after New Year. And there are always the preparations (pre-Carnaval, rehearsals, etc.), which are parties by themselves.

Carnaval is the most important manifestation of Brazilian culture. Between January and the Carnaval, the country is a never-ending sequence of events and preparations to commemorate its most significant holiday. During the Carnaval, you will enjoy live music in the streets and the best of the Brazilian samba genre. It’s an extraordinary spectacle of music, dance, and colorful costumes. And if you want to participate, head to Salvador, Bahia, where you will find a distinctive style of Carnaval. In Bahia, tourists can experience and dance alongside performers!

During the Carnaval, Brazil receives tourists from all over the world, and it’s the busiest time to visit Brazil.

Saint John’s Day: We love Saint John’s Day (São João). “Festa Junina,” as we call it in Brazil, is the most significant commemoration in the middle of the year. Saint John’s Day is an annual Catholic festival celebrated on June 24. While this is the official day, we commemorate it during the days before and after this holiday. Therefore, Brazilians celebrate this unique festival for the whole month of June.

This festival includes live music, dance performances, and many activities for kids to enjoy. And, of course, Saint John’s Day would not be without a bonfire. While one can find places to commemorate Saint John’s Day throughout Brazil, the most prominent events happen in the countryside. And the Northeast of Brazil is well known for its famous Saint John’s Festivities.

New Year:  The end of the year is a significant event in Brazil. Most people enjoy it by going to New Year parties, preferably by the beach. You should not pass on this holiday. It’s one of the best times to be in Brazil. Since the New Year happens during the Brazilian summer, many people travel to places by the beach to go the beach during the day and enjoy the New Year’s Eve party until sunrise.

Restaurants and Hotels have plenty of parties, and you can choose a package that includes your New Year’s Eve party in many hotels. If you want to read more about New Year’s Eve in Brazil, try my post about the Northeast of Brazil.

Visit Brazil Because Of The Culture and Its People: The Friendliest People on Earth

Canadians claimed to be your friendly country from the North of the US, then you should think of Brazil as your friendly country from the South of the US!

We hug, kiss, touch, and get close to each other. Privacy is a different concept in Brazil. While in some countries, you are expected to keep distance from each other while in line, in conversations, etc., this model rarely applies to Brazilians. We enjoy the proximity. So, it’s common for Brazilians to touch while talking, get close, or affectionately kiss someone without disrespect. It doesn’t mean we are being rude. It’s just how we communicate!

Brazilians are known for being friendly by nature. And this part of our culture makes Brazil a welcoming country. Brazil is where people will not feel threatened to help you simply because you are not local, don’t speak the language, or belong to a particular race. Brazil is one of the most ethnically diverse countries, and you will be comfortable going around places regardless of ethnicity.
